Blackwater Distillery
In 2015 Waterford’s newest micro-distillery opened in West Waterford on the banks of the river Blackwater. Here, the love and attention of a group of work colleagues gained a new focus and Blackwater No 5 Gin was made, and made again, with a few special varieties thrown in along the way!
The inspiration for Blackwater No.5’s botanicals came from the 19th century archives of White’s of Waterford, who were the country’s largest importers of spices, they also ran a ship yard and their vessels criss-crossed the globe importing tea from China and botanicals from the impossibly romantic ‘Spice Islands’.
This enterprising group led by Peter Mulryan have planned new challenges and will open their beautifully renovated building the Hardware Store in the village of Ballyduff in the far west of Co. Waterford in 2018. Here they plan to distill Irish whiskey as well as their existing white spirits.
And here too visitors will be welcome to visit and view this work in progress, and perhaps taste some along the way!
