One of Margaret Fleming’s earliest memories is baking lemon biscuits with her Nana Kelly. "I was about seven years old but the pleasure I got from tasting those hot, buttery biscuits fresh from the oven has never been forgotten". Both Margaret’s Mother and Grandmother were great bakers and both made exceptionally good brown soda bread – the real test of an Irish cook!
Margaret became a Domestic Science Teacher and spread her love of baking to many others, but saw that unfortunately nowadays, many people just don’t have the time or knowhow to bake like previous generations. So she started Dessert First with the aim of providing great tasting, delicious tarts and cakes ‘ just like Granny used to make’ – so you can have the tradition without the time and effort.
At Dessert First they use traditional recipes and quality ingredients – you won’t see a long list of unrecognisable additives on their labels. They use real Irish butter and fresh, local Early Bird eggs in all their baking for a far superior flavour.
