Dungarvan Brewing Company
Dungarvan Brewing Company is the epitome of the authentic family business. Brother and sister team Cormac and Claire and their respective spouses Jen and Tom have been brewing up a storm in Dungarvan, Co. Waterford since 2010.
As a keen homebrewer, Cormac O’Dwyer was always passionate about beers and ales. Meet ups with other homebrewers, a keen eye and palate for new and world beers, and the recession all played their part in driving Cormac to take a lifelong interest to the next level.
Ten years ago, conscious of the growing appetite for craft beers in Ireland, Cormac investigated further the feasibility of a micro-brewery in the seaside town of Dungarvan and in 2010 along with his sister Claire, brother-in-law, Tom and wife Jen established the Dungarvan Brewing Company.
The company today produces a range of craft beers and ales with an impressive nine products in their portfolio.
What is clearly apparent in the taste of each brew is the time, care, attention and quality ingredients that go into every cask. As head brewer, Cormac has forged a strong relationship with local suppliers and the quality of the ingredients shines through with every mouthful.
The recently introduced limited edition Seaweed Saison derives its pepperiness from locally sourced dillisk and the rich Coffee and Oatmeal stout is made from oats freshly milled at Flahavan’s in Kilmacthomas, just a few miles down the road from the brewery.
For Cormac and the team inspiration comes not just from seasonal produce but from the seasons themselves. The core range is supplemented with a brew to complement the seasons. Mahon Falls Rye Pale Ale with its fruity and punchy undertones in the spring, the delicate and floral Comeragh Challenger Irish Bitter for the summer and the hearty Coffee and Oatmeal Stout being the perfect winter tipple.
The Dungarvan Brewing Company team possesses a diverse and complementary set of skills, which has seen the company grow its market share and make a very impressive mark on the craft beer brewing scene.
This well-oiled business is intent on introducing more great new brews to beer lovers around the world. Not only will you find Dungarvan Brewing Company’s beers and ales across the island of Ireland, they are also available in France and Italy, with other export markets set to come on stream.
For visitors to the scenic Co. Waterford town, tours and tasting sessions have proved very popular and necessitated the addition of a tasting room to the Dungarvan brewery.
It seems that for the Dungarvan Brewing Company the glass is certainly half full!
