Lismore Castle and Estate was sold to Richard Boyle, 1st Earl of Cork by Sir Walter Raleigh in 1602.
Soon after in 1605 Richard Boyle started work on creating the Gardens at the Castle. Most of the walls and terraces remain unchanged to this day only the planting has changed over the centuries.
In the upper section of the Garden, you will find the Castle’s productive areas, where the Garden team grow an array of seasonal vegetables, herbs, and fruit for the Castle kitchen.
While the Castle is private visitors are welcome to visit the Garden and Art Gallery situated within the Garden from Mid-March to Mid-October. While visiting Castle jams, relishes, and chutneys made using garden produce can be purchased. Along with apple juice produced from The Castle’s Orchard and cakes supplied daily by the Castle kitchen to the Gallery Café.
Picnic Baskets are available to order during the summer months prepared using seasonal ingredients. the salad ingredients are grown on site to organic principles. Picnic baskets also include, apple juice, baked savoury breads and freshly made cakes.
