Blackwater Learning Journey

Blackwater Distillery

We had a very insightful and entertaining day yesterday (20 March 2024) on the Blackwater Learning Journey, as part of the Waterford Rural Tourism Network.

It was the first in a series of five Learning Journeys involving five cluster areas: Comeragh Uplands, Copper Coast, Gaeltacht, Waterford Estuary and Blackwater Valley.

The purpose is to connect with others in the area, learn about tourism experiences and products located in the Blackwater Valley, and gain personal learnings that can help others.

Along with stops at the Blackwater Eco Tours & Eco Glamping Pods in Villierstown, the Lismore Heritage Centre, and Mount Melleray Abbey, food and drink was showcased during the day.

The Blackwater Distillery held a fascinating talk in Ballyduff Upper, along with a tour of their distillery.

Lunch was held in the beautiful surrounds of Ballyin House Lismore, where we were treated to a delicious afternoon tea with seasonal and local produce.

We met lots of passionate producers and providers, and look forward to working with them in the future.

Thanks to all involved in the day, including Fáilte Ireland, Waterford City & County Council and Runda.

Go Co. Waterford!
