We welcomed our latest member of Taste Waterford recently – the House of Waterford Café & Bar.
The refined dining experience in the heart of Waterford offers not just a delicious breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea, there’s also a bar that stylishly nestles amongst some of the finest crystal in the world.
Our project manager Richard Povey met with the Clare Barrett – commercial manager, and Shauna Kenneally – sales and marketing coordinator.
Here’s their story…
Waterford.
It’s synonymous with many things. Ireland’s oldest city, the Vikings, stunning landscapes. But it’s fair to say that one highlight is undoubtedly crystal.
Crafted since 1783, Waterford continues to be at the forefront of exquisitely designed and expertly crafted crystal creations.
House of Waterford stands proudly as Waterford’s flagship store and showcases Waterford’s key values of craftsmanship, allowing visitors to experience the beauty of Waterford from initial concept to final product.
And it’s here too that Waterford’s other key area of recognition worldwide – food and drink – brings on a new meaning for visitors.
Taking a stroll around their store to wonder at crystal, or perhaps touring the factory – visitors have since 2010 enjoyed a further way to enhance their experience – the House of Waterford Café & Bar.
They serve an extensive menu of freshly made breakfast and lunch options like fresh berry granola pots and toasted goats cheese sourdough, indulgent sweet treats; with gluten free and vegetarian options available. And for that extra special touch – all served on elegant Wedgwood tableware.

An indulgent three-course afternoon tea is also served on Wedgwood china, accompanied by speciality teas or Champagne served in their exquisite Lismore flutes. Enjoy scones with cream and jam, mouthwatering savoury sandwiches, and a selection of exquisite desserts.

Award-winning local producers are also on show. Flahavan’s, a global oat brand, and the Blue Butterfly Coffee Company – all ensure visitors know the strength of the area’s food and drink.

And the café’s design reminds you you’re dining in a renowned space – with colours from the Irish landscape, including luxurious brown bench seating and hanging lights.
Their bar takes centre stage in the retail space. To savour Moët Champagne or a handcrafted cocktail whilst taking in the craftmanship of crystal is a unique experience. You can also enjoy fine wines, and their signature Irish coffee, all presented in stunning Waterford glassware.

This space has also proven popular for corporate events – and it’s easy to see why.
And you don’t have to visit the retail store to experience their offering. Popping into town to see friends or a treat before shopping – it’s the perfect way to enjoy Waterford.
The café on the Mall is open seven days a week from 9.00am to 4.00pm.
