Taste Waterford was delighted to join Liam McDonnell at Legacy Irish Cider recently to help plant their new orchard.
It’s a proud moment for owner Liam, with the trees planted in Carrigroe meaning he can secure the future of apples for their range of ciders.
Legacy runs through the company – starting first with Liam’s grandfather, Willie McDonnell, who grew and sold apples. Pat McDonnell, Liam’s dad, grew apple trees. And now Liam is continuing the tradition of apples by making award-winning cider.
The beautiful setting in West Waterford is being planted with 1,500 two-year-old Elstar trees over six acres.
Taste Waterford project manager Richard Povey helped Liam and Joe planting on a stunning day (admittedly only a few).
